My Story
Originally born in Dublin, Ireland. I moved across the pond to the equally picturesque Isle of Man in 2005. In 2004, I became qualified as a Montessori teacher and have been teaching children from age 4 to 14 ever since; most notably through my successful island business, Top Class Tuition.
A passion and a priority for me has always been to ensure that the personal needs of students are supported alongside education, and so I am also certified in teaching those with Dyslexia, ADHD and Autism.
I am passionate about guiding children, so they not only excel in academics but also appreciate and develop a love of learning, and this passion has been a key driver in developing the Lyons Method.
I’d tried other tools, such as the number line, hundred square, times tables, multiplication square, etc. but to no avail. It still didn’t fully make any sense to these students. I then realised, that we take for granted how we do maths, because we’ve been doing it for so long, yet for some, they are learning something new for the very first time.
I had to think about how I could simplify this even further and move it from abstract to concrete. That’s when I developed The Lyons Method. My students grasped the concept, at all ages, and they started to enjoy maths because they now understood it. From there, their confidence grew, and for me that’s magic!”
